Affiliate & Review Disclosure
Last updated: 10/02/2026
The short version
Some of the products we cover, we bought ourselves. Some, we received for free for review purposes. Some links on this site are affiliate links that earn us a small commission if you click through and buy something.
None of that changes what we actually say about a product. A free item doesn’t earn a better review than one we paid for out of pocket. If something’s mediocre, we say so — regardless of how it landed on our desk.
Amazon Associates disclosure
As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link on this site and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission, at no additional cost to you.
Other affiliate programs
We may participate in additional affiliate programs beyond Amazon Associates as this site grows. Any such relationship will be disclosed here, and on individual posts where it’s relevant.
Sponsored content and gifted products
Here’s how we treat each way a product can reach us:
| How we got it | How it’s labeled |
|---|---|
| Bought at retail with our own money | No label needed — this is the default |
| Sent free by a brand or PR agency, unconditionally | Labeled as a review sample in the post |
| Received through Amazon Vine | Not applicable to this site |
| Loaned for testing and returned afterward | Labeled as a loan, with the return noted |
| Paid placement or sponsored post | Labeled “Sponsored” at the top of the page, before the content |
We do not sell review verdicts, star ratings, or placement in a “best of” list. If a brand asks to buy a score, the answer is no, and the request itself may end up being the story.
How we label links
Affiliate links on this site may be shortened or routed through a link manager for tracking and maintenance. That’s a housekeeping tool, not a way to hide anything — every page carrying affiliate links says so, and you can always hover a link to see where it goes before you click.
What a commission never buys
- A higher rating than the product earned
- A negative point removed from a review
- A competitor left out of a comparison
- A recommendation we wouldn’t give a friend
Why this matters to us
We built this site because we were tired of reviews that felt like disguised advertising. If we’re ever going to ask you to trust a star rating, you deserve to know exactly how we got the product in the first place — so you can weigh our opinion accordingly, not despite our silence about it.
Questions
If you ever have a specific question about how we obtained a particular product, or whether a specific link is an affiliate link, email us through our contact page— we’re happy to help you.
This disclosure is written to meet the FTC’s Endorsement Guides, which require material connections to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. We also think it’s just the right way to run a review site.
